There is scarcely another city with so much variety as Hamburg. Many visitors are drawn to the modern Hamburg harbour area, with the Sankt Pauli wharves and the world famous entertainment area around the Reeperbahn. Take a look at the impressive structure of the emerging Elbe Philharmonia in the world-famous Speicherstadt.
The area around the Inner Alster is the heart and soul of the city centre. Stroll over the Jungfernstieg or explore Hamburg from the water on a boat trip. Anyone who wants to rise above it all will love the 106 metre high platform on the Michel, Hamburg’s landmark, and enjoy the views of the city. The Schanzenviertel district is not far from here, with lots of restaurants, cafés and boutiques.
As well as an opportunity to wander through countless museums by day, the city really shows off its cultural side by night. Cabaret, musicals or theatre - there’s something for every taste. If you want to immerse yourself in night life, you definitely shouldn’t miss a trip to Kiez with its many dance clubs and live shows. On the edge of the harbour, you’ll also find a wide selection of restaurants and bars.
Excursions around Hamburg
If you would like to explore the area around Hamburg, we recommend a trip to the Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park. Here, visitors can experience nature up close and personal on a visit to the seal colonies or a walk through the tidal flats and the salt marshes, and also get to know the diversity of the domestic birdlife there.
The island of Neuwerk is also within easy reach of Hamburg, and in summer it is a very appealing spot to enjoy a swim, a long walk or a bike tour. A detour into the “Old country on the Elbe”, Germany’s biggest fruit growing area is particularly worthwhile when the cherry trees and apple trees are blooming.
