Trainees put their skills to the test
H-Hotels Group presents Young Star Awards to up-and-coming talents
What is a chaser? What does a perfectly laid table look like? What details does a creative marketing concept include? 30 trainees and dual students from the H-Hotels Group should know exactly that. They competed for the Young Star Award at the Hyperion Hotel Dresden am Schloss. The hotel group's annual competition is attended by trainees as chefs, hotel, restaurant and event specialists in their second year of training as well as dual students. They qualified for the friendly competition in Dresden in a preliminary round. The best of around 60 H-Hotels came together from the 80 trainees and dual students.
The young talents spent two days solving theoretical and practical tasks that could also be set in their final exams in a year's time. "We were allowed to come up with various recipes ourselves and had to recognize spices and exotic fruits by smell and taste, which was a really great experience and prepared us perfectly," says Celina Timper, winner in the chefs category from the Hyperion Hotel München. "Passing the final exam is the prerequisite for a successful start to your career. We experience time and again how much more confident our candidates feel thanks to the practice competition," explains Corinna Abel, Training & Development Manager H-Hotels.
The participants tested themselves in tasks from various training areas. The young chefs recognized the chaser as a lemon peeler, they simulated a goods receiving area and created an unusual burger recipe, which they also prepared. The most creative burger will be on the menu of all H-Hotels during the European Football Championship. The best & most imaginative burger came from Celina Timper from the Hyperion Hotel München.
Among other things, the restaurant specialists showed which plates and glasses they set for a for a six-course meal, which cutlery to place where and how to decorate napkins and how to decorate napkins hygienically. The event management specialists checked a prepared conference room with regard to the specifications of a simulated customer and created the marketing concept for an event. The trainees also mixed a cocktail. The most unusual was the "Lemon Jaz" by Jasmin Schulze from the from the H+ Hotel Leipzig-Halle. The drink contains lemon juice, elderberry syrup, cranberry juice, lemon slice, blackcurrant & spritz and is now available for one year in the restaurants and bars of the H-Hotels.
