Founded in 1067, Wartburg über Eisenach is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This fortress, complete with great hall, keep, bailiwick and several courtyards, is well worth a visit. The fortress is particularly well-known for its association with the reformer Martin Luther, as well as the Wartburg Festivals of 1817 and 1848. Driving from the H+ Hotel & SPA Friedrichroda takes approximately 40 minutes.
Built on the ruins of a monastery, Schloss Reinhardsbrunn is surrounded by a landscaped park with exotic trees. Take a tour of the park and marvel at the 800-year-old “Klosterlinde“, among other things. It’s approximately fifteen minutes’ walk to the palace from the H+ Hotel & SPA Friedrichroda, or just a three-minute drive.
In earlier times, gypsum crystals were mined from the Marienglashöhle and used to decorate pictures of the Virgin Mary – hence the cave’s name. This crystal cave with underground lake is one of the largest and most beautiful of its kind in Europe. An exhibition informs visitors about mining in the region. It’s just a five minute drive to the cave from the H+ Hotel & SPA Friedrichroda.
The “GeoPark Inselsberg – Drei Gleichen” is full of hiking and bike paths, such as the Rennsteig and the Thüringenweg. As well as interesting geotopes, you can also see the three castles known as the “Drei Gleichen”, named for their resemblance to each other. It’s about a 20-minute drive to the “Kulturscheune Mühlberg” information centre from the H+ Hotel & SPA Friedrichroda.
